August at A&M has been a super busy month with a number of projects and a whole lot of change, bringing you a bigger, better and more dynamic A&M Consult team.
Hi Everyone,
I’m Carl, the newest member of the A&M Consult team. I’m a Senior Project Manager, broadly specialising in Social Networks.
Now the formalities are over, let’s talk about August at A&M Consult.
August has been a busy month for us here, with a lot of things changing – not least my joining the team here but one thing has not changed, and that is our drive, dedication and commitment to delivering a consistently amazing service.
This month, I wanted to talk about something that we have been talking about for a long time, something I have a particular interest in and that the mass media is paying increasingly more attention to: Twitter.
We all by now know what Twitter is and does, and if you don’t have a look at Kevin Pietersen’s experience to get the 20-second guide to Twitter http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2010/sep/06/kevin-pietersen-fined-england-twitter.
So who uses Twitter and why? I’ll talk you through the main players.
1.
Celebrities
So our favourite celebrities and personalities from TV, films and around the world use Twitter. Sometimes their assistants are using Twitter on their behalf, other times it’s the person or people themselves. The benefit of Twitter here is obvious, celebrities want to remain famous and to do so, they need to remain current. Maintaining a following on the latest platforms helps them to do that.
2.
Large corporations
Similarly, large corporations want to remain current and connect to their existing market and new markets. Twitter allows them to do this – they are given a platform to advertise and publish PR to inform their followers about their current business and future ideas and products.
3.
SMEs
Twitter and sites like it are an essential medium for SMEs because the scope for access to individuals and larger corporations is tremendous. Every individual is a potential client, advisor or mentor; every large corporation a potential guide or competitor; and every other SME a potential ally. For many SMEs, Twitter is a great way to get their name and offering known and drum up interest in their business.
4.
Charities
Charities strive for exposure. Fighting for worthy causes, often, at times they feel they require is for people to be aware of what they are doing and Twitter offers them the avenue through which to do that. Though there is no direct route to funding this way, like businesses, a charity can provide information about how to make donations and show followers how the donated money has been spent.
5.
Individuals
Last but by no means least, individuals. We use Twitter either as consumers – to take in whichever types of the above we decide to follow, or producers – posting updates about ourselves or an online persona. Individuals are the reason all five groups are on Twitter. We are a group of people actively trying to consume media online and by providing media to us, the five groups can essentially advertise to us – for free – and have us thank them for it.
Twitter is a fun social network and also a powerful business tool.
